How to measure for drapery

To begin with you will need a steel tape measure, pen and paper or our worksheet to record your measurements.

Label the window you are measuring with a room name and description.

Start by measuring the width of your window (A) and record your measurement, then continue to measure the height of your window (B) and record your measurement.

If you have a drapery rod that is already installed and want to use this rod, then you will need to measure from the middle of the rod to the floor (C).

This will give you the measurement for the length of the drapery you need.

Please note:

If you do not have a drapery rod, it is recommended that you install the rod 6” above the frame of the window to create a more polished look to your living space.

If you have higher ceilings and would like to have a more dramatic look, it is recommended to install your drapery rod 2” from the ceiling.

Measure from the top of your window frame to the floor and add the the rod height measurement to get the total drapery length measurement.

Top of window frame to floor + rod height = total drapery length

Measure the space that you have on each side of the window, from the window frame to the wall (D & E).

Measure the length of your drapery rod.

Please note:

If you do not have a drapery rod, it is recommended that your drapery rod should extend at least 6" past the window on both sides but if that is not possibe it should extend as much as the space allows.

Decide if you would like your drapes to touch or puddle on the floor to determine the final length of each panel.

Tailored - Do not add anything to the measurement C

Soft puddle  - Add 3 inches to the measurement C
