Why do drapes need to have linings?

Linings help to enhance the body of the fabric, helping it to hang beautifully with defined pleats and folds. The only exception to this are sheers.

Types of linings provided by Joseph Ashe.

Unlined

This preserves the natural transparency of the fabric and are usually used as sheers, on their own or as part of a layered drapery application. Hardware will be visible through the drapes.

Privacy lining

A privacy lining consists of a cotton fabric panel stitched to the back of the drapes which adds an increased level of privacy, light blocking and fullness. Although hardware may be visible through the drapes.

Privacy interlining

An extra layer of lining, usually flannel, is added between the drape fabric and privacy lining bringing the drape to three layers of fabric.  This extra layer provides essential privacy, insulation and can help with noise pollution.

Blackout lining

Ideal for bedrooms, this lining blocks out 99% of light entering the living space. This is a thick single layer lining and will increase the weight of the drapes significantly.  Therefore the tracking, hardware rods and mounting will need to be able to withstand the weight and still be able to be drawn across the track easily.

Colour matched satin

Perfect for adding a more luxurious look to your drapery. This lining will give an increased level of privacy, light blocking and fullness.
