What does fullness mean?
Fullness is the extra fabric used across the width of the drape that provides a drape with a richer, fuller look and better defined pleats.
How is fullness calculated?
Usually fullness is set at a 2 to 1 ratio or 200% fullness.
Meaning there is twice as much fabric as the area being covered. Therefore a 60" space would be covered by 120" of fabric. But fullness can go anywhere up to 300%
depending on the heading, fabric and overall look that is wanting to be achieved.
At Joseph Ashe a 200% fullness is standard
Fabric considerations when deciding on fullness
Sheer or thinner fabrics.usually need to have a higher fullness (300% or more) to have a luxurious look.
While thicker fabrics, like velvet, would look perfect with a 200% - 250% fullness.
The weight of the drapes should also be considered as there may be difficulty in gathering the drapes on the rod and be challenging to open and close them.
